When water comes through a roof, the roof repair is only the first half. Behind it there is a stained ceiling, swollen drywall, blistered paint, and sometimes a wall cavity that needs opening and closing back up.
We can take that from demo to put back. Remove the damaged material, make the repairs, prime with a stain blocking primer so the water stain does not ghost back through, and repaint to match. Doing this under the same contractor as the roof matters for two reasons. The scheduling is one, since a painter will not start until the leak is fixed and verified. The claim is the other, because interior repair is part of the same loss and is much easier to document and invoice as one scope.
Water stains specifically need a stain blocking primer. Painting straight over a dried water stain with regular wall paint means it bleeds back through within weeks, and it is the most common mistake homeowners make trying to handle it themselves.

Timing matters. The best exterior painting windows here are spring and early fall, when temperatures sit in the moderate range and humidity is lower. Painting in the middle of a humid ninety five degree July day means the surface skins over before the film cures underneath, and adhesion suffers. Late fall painting risks temperatures dropping below the product's minimum overnight.
Preparation is where exterior paint jobs succeed or fail. Wash the surface, scrape and sand failing paint back to a sound edge, prime bare wood and any rust bleed, caulk gaps at trim and windows, and replace rotted wood rather than painting it. Paint applied over chalky, dirty, or failing substrate will fail with it, no matter how good the product is.

If you have Hardie or another fiber cement siding, you are on a repainting cycle of roughly ten to fifteen years, sometimes longer with factory finished product.
Fiber cement holds paint very well, but it has specific requirements: an acrylic product formulated for masonry and cement board, correct caulking at butt joints and transitions, and no coating over the manufacturer's recommendations in a way that voids the warranty. Two things we do not skip. Protection, meaning floors covered, furniture moved or wrapped, and hardware removed rather than taped around. And cut lines, meaning clean straight edges at ceilings, trim, and corners, which is the difference between a professional job and a weekend job.
Ceilings after a roof leak are the most common interior request we get. Popcorn and textured ceilings are their own challenge, since matching existing texture on a patch takes practice and a bad match is more noticeable than the original stain was.
Square footage is the starting point but rarely the whole story.
Preparation drives the number more than paint does. A house with sound existing paint needs washing and caulking. A house with widespread peeling needs extensive scraping, sanding, and priming, and that can double the labor.
Other factors: number of stories and access difficulty, how many colors and how much cutting in, the condition of the substrate, whether rot repair is needed, and the quality of the product you choose. We use quality product because cheap paint on a Tennessee exterior means you are repainting in five years instead of ten.
